CHECK OUT CURSIVE'S THIRD AND FINAL EARLY SINGLE FROM THEIR FORTHCOMING ALBUM, VITRIOLA

It's Gonna Hurt”

September 29, 2018 - Cursive today shared their new song “It’s Gonna Hurt,” the third and final early single from their forthcoming new album, Vitriola. Of the moody, foreboding track -- a heady mix of angular guitars, haunting cello and synths, pulsating bass, and forceful drums -- singer/guitarist Tim Kasher says, “This song is about watching those closest to you as they seem to deliberately self-destruct. How we find it hard to forgive them for it, but also how we carry the blame for it”; listen now HERE. “It’s Gonna Hurt” follows first single “Life Savings” (“It's classic Cursive, with psychic nails of sound and Kasher's righteously spit anger, enriched by a guitar melody that breaks apart the rage.” - NPR Music) and second single “Under The Rainbow” (“a heavy hitter” - NYLON). Marking the band’s first new album since 2012 as well as their debut release on their own label, 15 Passenger, Vitriola will be arrive in stores next Friday, October 5th. Pre-order it now HERE.

Cursive will head out on tour mid-next month, beginning on October 18th in Kansas City, MO. The first, eastern leg of the tour will wrap up on November 18th in hometown Omaha, NE and the band will then begin their western run on January 19th in Boulder, CO. A current itinerary is below and includes a November 7th show at New York’s Irving Plaza and a January 31st show at Los Angeles’ Regent Theater. See all the upcoming tour dates here!

CURSIVE PREMIERE NEW SONG “UNDER THE RAINBOW” ON STEREOGUM

September 5, 2018 - Cursive today premiered new song “Under The Rainbow” via Stereogum alongside an interview with frontman Tim Kasher. Listen to the pummeling, anthemic track now HERE. “Under The Rainbow” is the second song released from the band’s forthcoming album Vitriola, out October 5, 2018 via their own label, 15 Passenger -- marking their first self-release for the label, as well as their first album since 2012. Pre-order the album now HERE. First single “Life Savings,” which premiered via an NPR Music feature, can also be heard HERE

CURSIVE ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM, US TOUR AND PREMIERES NEW SONG ON NPR

August 8, 2018 - Cursive has announced their first new album in six years, Vitriola, will be released on October 5, 2018 via their own label, 15 Passenger and with their friends Big Scary Monsters in Europe. NPR Music premiered lead single “Life Savings” this morning alongside an interview with singer/guitarist Tim Kasher; listen to the song now HERE. A foreboding track that carries a heavy weight despite its soaring bridge, “Life Savings” sets the tone for the rest of Vitriola and in many ways encapsulates all things Cursive: seething vocals, angular and intertwining guitars, bone-quaking bass, and pounding drums -- which are courtesy of founding member Clint Schnase for the first time since 2006’s Happy Hollow. Vitriola is Cursive’s debut self-release of a new album through 15 Passenger and can be pre-ordered now HERE (and HERE for Europe).

Recorded at hometown Omaha, NE’s ARC Studios with Mike Mogis -- who last co-produced with Cursive on Happy Hollow -- Vitriola takes a different approach than the tightly woven conceptual albums of the band’s past. It is less rigidly themed and more responsive, and finds the band struggling with existentialism veering towards nihilism and despair; the ways in which society, much like a writer, creates and destroys; and an oncoming dystopia that feels eerily near at hand. There’s a palpable unease that wells beneath Vitriola’s simmering requiems and fist-shakers: at its core, the album is about a search for meaning that keeps coming up empty, and finding the will to keep going despite the fear of a dark future. The album directs frustration and anger not only at the universe at large and a modern society that seems to grow more confusing, unstable, and chaotic with each passing day, but also inwardly towards ourselves -- illustrating an uncommon self-awareness that’s become a hallmark of Kasher’s songwriting. “Vitriola was written as a reaction to an ulcer I now live with as a result of all the ‘vitriol’ seeping into our daily lives,” explains Kasher. “Rather than contributing to the anger, hopefully this record can be witnessed as a reflection of our collective anxieties, and perhaps offer a little catharsis.”

Sonically, Vitriola runs the gamut between rich, resonant melodicism, Hitchcockian anxiety (frequently courtesy of Patrick Newbery’s keys and Megan Siebe’s cello, an instrument used here again for the first time since The Ugly Organ), and powerful dynamics -- and no Cursive album would be complete without scream-along lyrics that make for unlikely anthems.

Cursive -- joined by touring drummer Pat Oakes -- will head out on a month-long tour of the U.S. this fall, beginning October 18 in Kansas City, MO. The tour will wrap up on November 18th with an Omaha show and includes an October 26 stop at The Fest 17 in Gainesville, FL and a November 7 stop at Irving Plaza in New York, NY. Meat Wave and Campdogzz -- their first non-Cursive signing to 15 Passenger that released a new album, In Rounds, last week -- will support on most shows. A current itinerary is below and more dates will be announced soon.

Cursive is: Tim Kasher (vocals/guitar), Ted Stevens (guitar/vocals), Matt Maginn (bass), Clint Schnase (drums), and Patrick Newbery (keys), with Megan Siebe on cello.

CAMPDOGZZ DEBUT NEW SONG “SOUTHERN,” NEW ALBUM IN ROUNDS OUT NOW

Campdogzz today debuted their song “Southern,” the third released off their forthcoming new album In Rounds, out 8/3 via 15 Passenger. "Southern" sounds like a battered pickup truck cruising down the back roads of America toward someone else's vision of the "Great South".  Jess Price's cracked and wily vocals never sound more self-assured as she literally 'laughs' in the face of her idealistic lover/driver. Listen to the searing track now HERE.

“Southern” follows lead single “Souvenir,” which premiered via Brooklyn Vegan in late May, and “Run Wild,” which premiered via a singer/guitarist Jess Price-directed video on Under The Radar earlier this month. In Rounds is available via 15 Passenger (Cursive’s label) HERE.

“‘Southern’ is a depiction of what it’s like to love the place you're from while being at odds with the dark sides of its culture. We tried to keep that push and pull in the instrumentation as well,” says guitarist/vocalist Mike Russell. “Lyrically, I think it’s Jess's best song, and it’s a song that could only be written well by someone with that kind of relationship to their home.”

CAMPDOGZZ PREMIERE “RUN WILD” VIDEO VIA UNDER THE RADAR

Campdogzz today premiered their video for “Run Wild,” off their forthcoming new album In Rounds, via Under The Radar. The clip -- directed by singer/guitarist Jess Price and filmed in her hometown of Tulsa, OK -- can also now be seen HERE. The video follows lead single “Souvenir,” which premiered via Brooklyn Vegan in late May. In Rounds will be released on August 3, 2018 and is available for pre-order HERE.

“The video is a visual representation of what, to me, is lush, visceral, spiritual Tulsa, OK. Most of what you see was shot on the North side and at the historic Colony. Featured is Lydia Cheshewalla (Roots and Ash, Holy Mother Collective) along with several other resident Tulsa artists and musicians, sculpture by Chris Wollard,” explains Price. “Those who live or have lived in the area will gladly attempt to describe it. Its sky. The way the winds rip and shift. Green country and how alive it is. Insects. The pull to come back. The heaviness that seems to always be in the air. It's an area that is in part progressing, yet is so acutely preserved. The song itself is more or less a person acknowledging patterns in their life. And the setting holds the heaviness of those patterns and the lightness of their revelations.”

Campdogzz head back out on the road next week for a run of dates beginning July 18th in Spring Green, WI. The band will then tour in support of In Rounds in August, playing Grand Rapids, MI, on the 2nd and making their way throughout the east coast and midwest before wrapping up on the 11th in Pittsburgh, PA -- including an August 8th show at Union Pool in Brooklyn, NY. A current itinerary is below.

CAMPDOGZZ SIGN TO 15 PASSENGER ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM IN ROUNDS OUT AUGUST 3, 2018

15 Passenger are honored to announce the signing of our first band, Campdogzz! Their epic album, In Rounds, is set for release on August 3, 2018. Campdogzz are such a great band and group of people, we are truly thrilled to be working with them. Campdogzz have premiered their first single “Souvenir” via Brooklyn Vegan, HERE. Campdogzz have premiered their first single “Souvenir” via Brooklyn Vegan with a link below. Described as “complete with crunchy but crystal clear guitars and some really strong hooks,” setting the tone of the album with a pulsating melody that’s as compelling as it is disquieting. In Rounds is available for pre-order via our 15 Passenger store -> http://bit.ly/Campdogzz_PreOrder

Campdogzz -- who have played with artists including Julien Baker, Big Thief, Sam Evian, and Field Report --  will embark on tour this summer, beginning July 6th in Madison, WI and including a stop on July 8th at West Fest in Chicago. The band will head back out on the road on August 2nd in support of In Rounds for a run of dates that includes an August 8th show at Union Pool in Brooklyn, NY. A current itinerary is below.

In Rounds is centered around driving rhythms, insistent dual guitars set in intriguing arrangements, and the haunting, evocative voice of Tulsa, OK-native Jess Price. Her melodies take on the shape of a storm making its way in -- and out just as soon. There’s a feeling of electricity, of winds shifting, a magical mix of both comfort and unease. The album was written partially in Chicago but mostly throughout the Southwest as Price and guitarist/vocalist Mike Russell traveled post-tour. Engulfed by desert, this starkness -- like the mercurial storms of Price’s native Oklahoma -- couldn’t help but seep into the songs. It was a period of collective change for the band as relationships began and ended, people moved and planted new roots. Everyone experienced some sort of massive life shift and the album serves as a reflection of that period, of growth and patience.

Price, who moved to Chicago to become a filmmaker, has spent her life writing songs. She never considered pursuing music, however, until her introduction to Russell and Nick Enderle (guitar, synth) while filming a documentary on their previous band, Suns. While Price is the main songwriter, Russell has been equally integral to the band from the start, shaping the sound and contributing a song completely of his own on each album. Campdogzz’s self-released 2015 debut album, Riders in the Hills of Dying Heaven, was the brainchild of solely the pair and came together quickly, but In Rounds represents a shift in their creative process. The new album is a more collaborative and intentional effort, written over a couple of years and recorded in 2017 in Chicago. Like its predecessor, In Rounds is self-produced, but this time with production assistance from engineer Nick Papaleo. Campdogzz are: Jess Price (vocals, guitar, organ), Mike Russell (guitar, backing vocals), Nick Enderle (guitar, synth), Andrew Rolfsen (bass), and Chris Dye (drums). Drums on In Rounds were played by Matt Evert.

15 Passenger Launches New Rare Coins Album Series Featuring David Bazan and Sean Lane

Sometimes you find a recording artist you think is so cool, you can’t understand why more people haven’t heard of them already. You put them on all your mixtapes. You buy their record over and over again because you keep giving your personal copy away to friends. The Rare Coins Series was conceived to offer an established artist the opportunity to share one of their favorite artists with the rest of the world by way of a limited release split 12”.

As long time fans of all things in David Bazan’s orbit, 15 Passenger was overjoyed to bring him in for this inaugural Rare Coins release. And as discovering new talent is paramount to the series conceit, 15 Passenger has also become new fans of Sean Lane’s work and are honored to play a role in bringing his music to a wider audience.

David Bazan first met Sean Lane a decade ago while Sean was working at American Music in Seattle. Sean had given him an EP of a band he was playing in and Bazan was immediately struck by Sean’s percussion. A handful of years later, Sean caught Bazan’s attention again when he started recording and performing on an original instrument he built from the frame of a child’s bike; custom made bell cymbals, springs, flatwound guitar strings both plucked and bowed, and a plethora of effects pedals.

Lane has played in Perfume Genius and Yppah, and is currently on tour with Bazan in his latest incarnation of Pedro The Lion.

Lane contributes five ambient pieces that feel like a soundtrack to a mysterious, foggy night along Puget Sound. Off kilter rhythms and supernatural synths drift beneath moaning saxophones and lonely chimes. On “Invisible”, Lane lends abstract vocals to express a yearning to disappear amongst the hectic routine of daily life.

The four songs provided by Bazan are playful, provocative, and reminiscent of a leaner rock and roll style found in Bazan’s earlier work with Pedro the Lion. His signature rhythm and melody is found all over these tunes, as he handled all the instrumentation himself. These songs are awesome, amongst the finest stuff he’s ever written. “Opposite Soul” is a muscular, brooding pop song that explores the fundamental differences between “us” and “us”  in today’s increasingly partisan world.

15 Passenger Records has released their first Rare Coins Series with David Bazan and Sean Lane, on April 6, 2018. Available on gold vinyl, limited to 1,000. Order it now here!

CURSIVE ANNOUNCES 20TH ANNIVERSARY REMASTERED REISSUES OF FIRST TWO ALBUMS: 1997’S SUCH BLINDING STARS FOR STARVING EYES & 1998’S THE STORMS OF EARLY SUMMER: SEMANTICS OF SONG

Cursive has announced plans to reissue remastered versions of their first two albums, 1997’s debut Such Blinding Stars For Starving Eyes and 1998’s The Storms Of Early Summer: Semantics Of Song in celebration of the 20th anniversary of both albums. Both releases will arrive in stores on December 1, 2017 via their own newly formed label, 15 Passenger, and Stars is now available for pre-order HERE, while Storms is available HERE.

Remastered by Ed Brooks (Pearl Jam, Fleet Foxes, Mastodon; The Ugly Organ remasters) from the original tapes, both albums will be available for purchase digitally and on vinyl. The vinyl editions will be limited to 2,000 copies and printed on 180-gram, two-color records: Stars will be blue with a white starburst pattern; Storms will be clear vinyl with a white swirl/smoke pattern and mark the first time the album has ever been released on vinyl in the U.S. The Stars reissue features a foreword written by Tom Mullen of Washed Up Emo, while Storms features forewords by Ted Stevens (Cursive’s current guitarist who joined in 2000 following the departure of Stephen Pedersen) and the band’s longtime friend and European tour manager, Oliver Wyczisk. Such Blinding Stars For Starving Eyes and The Storms Of Early Summer: Semantics Of Song feature the original Cursive line-up of Tim Kasher (vocals, guitar), Matt Maginn (bass), Stephen Pedersen (guitar), and Clint Schnase (drums).

Originally released by Crank! Records (Stars) and Saddle Creek (Storms), the albums introduced the Omaha, NE-based band to the world and were the entry point for a devoted following that remains reverential some 20 years later. While these albums document a band in the early stages of a now-storied career, both Stars and Storms already showcased the trademarks for which Cursive has now become known: complex yet lyrical melodies and angular guitars, a heady mix of hushed and noisy dynamics, and Kasher’s incisive, confessional lyricism and singular voice -- which Pitchfork would later describe as “a more earnest, volatile, emotionally charged voice cannot be found.”

Tim Kasher Premieres Full Stream Of New Solo Album No Resolution Via The Av Club

Tim Kasher premiered a full stream of his new solo album No Resolution this morning via The AV Club. Called “…simply affecting, offering a peak into some intimate moments of domestic discord,” the album can now be heard here. No Resolution will arrive in stores this Friday, March 3rd.

Following a sold-out solo show tomorrow night, March 1st, at Brooklyn’s Union Pool, Kasher will head overseas to tour the UK and Europe through March. He’ll return stateside for a run of west coast and southwest dates that begins on April 25th in Denver, CO. A current itinerary is below and more dates will be announced soon.

Known for pushing musical boundaries throughout his career – whether he’s switching up sounds between his bands and solo LPs, crafting intricate concept albums (two of which – Cursive’s 2003 LP The Ugly Organ and 2012 LP I Am Gemini – featured play-like stage directions), or transforming songs originally conceived as a soundtrack for his self-penned screenplay into a standalone album (The Good Life’s 2007 release Help Wanted Nights) – No Resolution is the natural continuation of Kasher’s constantly evolving body of work. It is his most cinematic creation, a moving and cathartic collection of soundscapes that feels more like a suite of movements than a standard pop album, complete with instrumental breaks conjoining the nine songs. Fittingly, the 15 pieces will be featured in Kasher’s directorial debut film of the same name, which he also wrote, to be released later this year. Across the album’s strong story, the characters – an engaged couple on the brink of a break up – grapple with the specific and the broad, including the restlessness of adulthood and smothering external pressures; relationships in various states of transition and the walls built within them; distrust, indecision, and despair; and the existential anxiety that drives a deep need to leave a mark on the world.

New Tim Kasher Record, 'No Resolution', Out March 3rd!

Tim Kasher – singer/guitarist for bands Cursive and The Good Life – will release his third solo album No Resolution on March 3, 2017 via 15 Passenger, the newly launched label owned and run by Cursive. The first song from the new album, “An Answer For Everything,” debuted today via CLRVYNT and is an alternately sweeping and cadent waltz marked by aching, orchestral crescendos. Of the song, Kasher said, “One of my favorite stories from the record, it’s about a couple reminiscing of the early days of their relationship when they felt so confident and self-assured, before so much doubt and uncertainty bogged down their ability to communicate.” Listen HERE

Tim Kasher debuted a second new song, “Break Me Open,” off his forthcoming third solo album No Resolution this morning via Stereogum. The track’s “…spare yet energetic guitar balladry bolstered by a string section” can also now be heard HERE!

No Resolution is now available for pre-order via the 15 Passenger website, iTunes and Amazon; “An Answer For Everything” will come as an instant grat download with all pre-orders. The album will also be released on blue with white splatter pattern vinyl for a limited run of 1,000, which will be available through the 15 Passenger Bandcamp store, records stores and at Kasher’s upcoming live shows. A clear with red and yellow splatter pattern vinyl version of No Resolution will be exclusive to independent record stores as well, also limited to a run of only 1,000.

No Resolution was written throughout 2013-15 and recorded at The Hobby Shop (with Andrew ‘mudrock’ Murdock) and at Kasher’s home in Los Angeles, CA, the Shape Shoppe in Chicago, IL (with Nick Broste), and at ARC Studios in Omaha, NE (with Ben Brodin). Filled with lush arrangements that include piano, vibraphone, organ, trumpet, synths, and various strings, the album is some of the most beautiful and finely orchestral music from Kasher, yet it is also his most subdued and understated work. A full track listing and cover artwork are below.

The album will be the first release from 15 Passenger, the new INgrooves-distributed label founded and run by the members of Cursive: Kasher, bassist Matt Maginn, and guitarist/vocalist Ted Stevens. In addition to No Resolution this winter, the label plans to reissue Cursive’s entire catalog beginning with their 1997 debut LP Such Blinding Stars For Starving Eyes and their 1998 LP The Storms of Early Summer: Semantics of Song in fall of 2017. More news on the label and its forthcoming releases will be announced soon.

Kasher will head to Europe in early March for a month-long tour (UK dates TBA) before coming home for a three-week run throughout the western U.S. All U.S. shows will be with a full band that includes cello, violin, and vibraphone. A current itinerary is below and more dates will be announced soon.
